Hey, Mom!

Hey, Mom!

It's Mother's Day tomorrow (Sunday, May 13th, 2018) and I realized that I haven't written much about you since I started writing this blog. I have been listening to the Elvis Presley album "THE SEARCHER" released recently for the documentary on HBO. I can't help but think of you when I listen to it as Elvis' music has always had a place in my heart so closely attached to you. I can't help but think of all the memories we both have associated with the music. I will have to write about that some more another time... Talking about memories...

Hey, MOM!

Do you remember when I was drifting out past the breakers on that slowly deflating green (or was it blue?) raft at the beach, I panicked and started to scream. Do you remember? I attracted so much attention. Everyone on the shore gathered around you and I was so scared. I made it to shore after you yelled out to me to “just keep kicking my legs”. You were so calm.

Hey, MOM!

Remember when I was getting suspended in seventh grade for passing out SweetTarts candy at school and you came to defend me from my school counselor? I sat outside Mrs. Gallagher's office door and you were letting her have it! I mean, I was used to hearing it directed at me, don't get me wrong, but you were giving it to her good. You also said some things that made me see you a little differently. I saw that you were a little more worldly than I ever imagined. Mrs. Gallagher had no idea who she was dealing with!

Hey, Mom!

When you were ready to go back to Minnesota, I totally understood why. I wasn't planning on following you back there, but a few months later you sent me a credit card to help do just that. You didn't have to send it, but you seemed really scared about me driving across the country alone. I can't even remember if I even used that credit card today, but I can tell you that I felt better knowing it was there. I know you felt the same way too.

Hey, Mom!

I am sure I broke your heart with all the trouble I caused. You knew what I was up to most of the time. Certainly, I was up to no good. I can only imagine how many times you had to bite your tongue or hold in your anger. Each time I would show up out of nowhere after being gone for days, I can only imagine what you were thinking. So many times I showed up after sneaking in at two in the morning only to roll out of bed sometime after noon and simply say... “Hey, Mom!”

Hey, Mom!
Love you! Happy Mother's Day! And thank you!

Hope you enjoy your gift.
